Biology: inhabits exposed reef flats and reef margins and crests, 0.3 to 7 m. Feeds mainly on benthic algae, often in the territories of herbivorous damselfishes. Exposed for brief periods only. Shy, rapidly retreats to shelter when approached.
SKELETON SHRIMP (Caprellid sp.) Location:Raja Ampat,Indonesia Caprellids are very small crustaceans, usually seen in great numbers on algae, covering gorgonian sea fans, soft corals and hydroids. When you look at Denise pygmy seahorse, look closer on the sea fan, it is usually covered with these tiny Amphipods. Skeleton shrimp can have various colour, can be orange or purple or spotted, but mainly transparent. The female cares for her young's by carrying them on their shoulders, protecting them from attacks of cannibalistic males.
CANDY CRAB (Hoplophrys oatesii) Location:Raja Ampat,Indonesia This is a small species of spider crab, which hides among polyps of soft corals, Dendronepthya sp. Their body colour ranges from white, pink, yellow to red depending on the colour or its host. It camouflages itself by attaching soft coral polyps onto its carapace. Their first pair of legs has small claws, they have a body with large spines, and they are translucent with red and white patterns, mimicking a soft coral host. Their body size is about 1,5 cm.

Tail Spot Blenny (Ecsenius stigmatura) Location:Raja Ampat,Indonesia The Tail Spot Blenny's defining feature is the dark spot at the base of its tail. A black and yellow band runs below each eye, aiding them in blending into their surroundings. They are a smaller blenny with very large eyes, and small mouth giving these fish a very comical look.

PEACOCK MANTIS SHRIMP (Odontodactylus scyllarus) Location:Raja Ampat,Indonesia The body size of this species is up to 18 cm. They are usually found in un-shaped burrows constructed of small pieces of rubble or in coral. The adult males often have a bright green color. The females are more commonly olive, and the juveniles tend to be yellow. The female mantis shrimp lays eggs which are red or pink in color, and keeps them on the outside of her body, aerating them. This egg clutch can be very small - from 8-14mm and there can be up to 50,000 eggs in one clutch, all attached to each other. She holds the eggs for about 11 weeks and turns (aerates) them to guarantee a good oxygen supply as well as picking out dead or bad eggs.

TOZEUMA SP. Location:Lembeh,Indonesia There are several undescribed species of Tozeuma shrimp species, which live on various hosts, including coral and sea grasses. Their colour can be very variable, but usually without any stripy pattern, except of one or a few darker spots on their body.
BOX CRAB (Calappa sp.) Location:Lembeh,Indonesia There are several species of Calappa in Lembeh strait. They all burrow in soft sandy and muddy bottoms. Their shiny carapace can be from cream to brown, and they are sometimes covered in dark spots. Box crabs feed on mollusks, opening the shell with their powerful claw. They are only found occasionally.

It filter feeds on plankton, using a special sieve-like appendage. They are often found in pairs. Their central body has a round shape, with a smooth surface. They have large claws. They are reamy white with numerous small red spots. They live mostly in anemones, and the females are larger than the males.
HARLEQUIN SHRIMP (Hymenocera elegans) Location:Lembeh,Indonesia Have a bizarre shape and vivid coloration make this shrimp can be recognizable. The body is cream or white with large brownish-purple blotches with bright blue m argins. The legs are banded, have small antenna and rigid fingers of claws.
HAIRY SQUAT LOBSTER (Lauriea siagiani) Location:Lembeh,Indoneia This small species of lobster is found exclusively on barrel sponges. It is bright pink with purple stripes on its legs and along its body. The whole body is decorated with white bristles, which make up the skeleton of the sponge. Usually a pair or a small group of squat lobsters share one sponge.

This species have white to yellowish colored body and it's covered with large purple spots. The legs and chelipeds are banded.When found inpairs the female is usually larger up to 2 cm in length.Can be found on the venomous sea urchin Asthenosoma varium or we use to call it fire urchin. This shrimp is very rare because not all fire urchin have this shrimp and mostly this urchin can be found at deep are about 25m-30 m of depth.

SEA PEN CRAB (Porcellanella triloba) Location:Jeddah,Saudi Arabia This is a small species of porcelain crab. It lives hiding in the stem of a sea pen (soft coral mostly emerging at night). It feeds by filtering plankton using sieve-like structures on its modified claws. They are usually found in pairs.
